PROJECTS IMPLEMENTATION STRATEGIES
As a first step in implementing its programs/projects, the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan engages in community mobilisation to raise awareness in the community about career guidance, health and hygiene, the importance of education in modern-day affairs, gender-related issues, socio-economic development, and environmental protection. To that end, we hold community meetings, conduct training/capacity building sessions, and launch campaigns.
EFSS believes in advocacy, the management will always strongly advocate for issues related to it. To accomplish this goal, EFSS will approach the line departments of the Government of South Sudan, NGOs, CBOs, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), members of the community, and notables through strong advocacy, and EFSS will always promote the right-based approach and support dialogue as an important tool for achieving the aforementioned objectives.
Excellence Foundation for South Sudan is a staunch believer in very strong and efficient service delivery in the fields of education, health, and the environment. For this purpose, Excellence Foundation for South Sudan management will always deliver services in the communities in a transparent manner taking care of quantity and quality. It is only because of this very reason that the EFSS interventions will always help in meeting the community's needs and achieving the desired objectives.
We will always encourage collaboration with other NGOs, CBOs, CSOs, media organisations, and concerned stakeholders in order to achieve the goal of sustainable development. Networking with other organisations is always beneficial because it acts as a bridge between service providers and those receiving services. Networking essentially allows you to examine issues from various perspectives, such as local, national, and finally regional. At each level, the perspective on the issue shifts, which aids in understanding.
OUR ACTIVE PROJECTS
We have undertaken initiatives in South Sudan in collaboration with local NNGOs and CBOs. As a result, we enjoy a rich experience of working in the diverse socio-cultural environment of South Sudan and extensive networking with the Government, civil society institutions, and the media.

Our Female Student Internship Program (FSIP) is a three-month transformative initiative aimed at nurturing the leadership potential of six young women per cohort who are either fresh graduates or in their final semester of university education with no work experience. This highly competitive program provides outstanding female students with a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in communications, project and finance management, while also receiving mentorship, skill development, and networking opportunities at the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan. Piloted in January 2024, this program has fostered leadership skills, self-confidence, and a strong sense of civic responsibility hence preparing nearly fifteen (15) young women to become positive change agents and future leaders, contributing to the social, economic, and political development of South Sudan.
We organize an annual Schools Mini Spelling Bee, Speed Challenge Quiz, Speech, and Academic Debate Contest with partners to inspire and challenge primary and secondary school students. The competition offers a levelled ground for public and private schools to compete believing that investing in children is investing in the future and showcases the best South Sudanese children have to offer. The organization believes that pupils and students are the innovators of tomorrow and provides school activities to encourage innovation. We define innovation as starting something new that adds value to our life processes. Since its inception in 2022, the project has worked with over 40 schools in the capital Juba reaching more than 5,000 learners and at least 100 teachers.
The Spelling Bee is an annual competition for children that aims to improve literacy, unleash children's imaginations, and foster 21st-century skills like communication, collaboration, and critical thinking. It is intended to make learning enjoyable and exciting for children while also enabling them to learn positively.
The organisation is concerned about the numerous mistakes that students and even writers make when using English terminology.
This project is a one-month mentorship program for student leaders in selected primary and secondary schools to help them develop leadership skills. The goal of the Career Chat is to equip students with the inspiration and information to make better-informed decisions about their future career paths. This has been conducted in about 10 schools in Juba and Yei benefitting close to 1,000 students and pupils. The Prefects Board Mentorship develops self-confidence, humility, authenticity, and assertiveness to hone the skills necessary for developing core leadership competencies by working with mentors and being trained on key roles in student organizations. Career Chat provides students with the necessary knowledge, skills, and values to make informed decisions at each key education stage for the successful transition from school to further education or work, and hence to manage their career pathways and lifelong learning throughout their lives.

OUR PARTICIPATORY APPROACH TO DEVELOPMENT AND EMPOWERMENT
The Excellence Foundation for South Sudan adopts a participatory approach to all aspects of its work, influenced by the new development paradigm that prioritizes people over things. The Foundation recognizes and values the traditional knowledge of vulnerable groups, and believes in their ability to organize themselves and become self-reliant. The participatory approach emphasizes decentralization and empowerment and involves communities at all stages of the development cycle, including project identification, planning, management, implementation, and evaluation. We manage our affairs in a participatory manner and act as a "change agent" in developing community management structures that can manage their own development. These structures promote equitable representation and participation and increase the community's belief in the worth of their development decisions and efforts. Human resource development is another critical component of our work, aimed at maximizing the community's ability to direct its own development.
We are committed to maximizing our impact by transforming field experiences into knowledge that can influence the development policies and practices of NGOs, donors, and government agencies. We recognize that this is crucial for achieving our long-term goal of eradicating poverty and increasing people's capacity. By sharing our experiences and knowledge, we aim to shape the way development work is done and to promote more effective and sustainable development practices. Through its participatory approach and commitment to human resource development, the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan is working towards empowering communities and promoting self-reliance, while also advocating for more inclusive and effective development practices.
